Mundus Vanitas
Mundus Vanitas
Of all the Divels wichcrafts ther is none
More Huisherer unto Temptation
Than the beGuilded nothings of delight
The world howlds forth to cheat mans Appetite
Which masking under Pleasures subtil name
Or proffits spell, soon Captivates the same
When as Those Comforts what somere they be
Should be made soe by a Conformety
To him that guives them and in usage raise
The Contemplation to the Doners prayse
First as we grow in Substance to provide
Our Gratious God may be stil Glorefide
Else Riches are but Snares: for better 'twas
Without them to be Blest with Lazarus
Than over-whelmed in too great plenties store
With the rich Glutton Torturd ever more
And wher Contentment's Sugerd baytes entice,
We should beware as if we trod on Ice
Soe Slippry's their foundation heer and all
Their Favorites They doe but rayse for fall
Whilst if we call to mind what Scripture bears
That Those shall reap Joy; first have sown in Tears
We would Ambitious be our Cares to turne
From Piles of laughter to those sells that mourn
Wher finding wisedom we may easly see
That all This worlds Pack is but Foppery.
