Persian Sonnets - Part 14

" Do you remember?" Oh, how sweet they sound
The tender words; do I remember? yes!
My heart is full of sweet remembrances,
Dear hovering thoughts, that angel-like surround
My path and bed. Bright thoughts that most abound
When all is pain and grief and loneliness;
E'en as the glow of yellow crocuses
Breaks warm and lovely from the snowy ground.

" Do you remember?" Oh, what might it mean!
What has it meant to many a tortured mind!
What horrid shape that follows close behind!
What grief! what guilt! what shame! But as for me
I feed my soul on thoughts of what has been:
In life and death will I remember thee.
