Classic Poem

On worn down land, barren and rocky, far away from the city,
you have turned into a stone adorned with leaves by cowherds who tend
many cattle and who tie glowing fragrant clusters of venkai flowers
from the tall trees and palmyra fronds with them to your stone,
O lord of fast horses! Not only the wealth given to those
who came to you in need and then lived out their lives
in the shadow of your feet when you were like thunder in the sky
but also the sure victories of kings
who had their swiftly running elephants have vanished with you!
