Remembering the Little Souls

In the tenth lunar month the silvergrass flowers are falling in profusion
The time for making sacrifices to the Little Souls is at hand
Don't know if the Little Souls have been informed or not
The blessings and disasters, the joy and anger of the past
All have become a whisp of smoke
The Saisiat repent everyday and have waited year after year
The Saisiat have knotted the silvergrass, inviting the Taai home for a visit
Together let us revive and old dream as we recall and ponder the past
Amid the flowering stalks of the silvergrass
The Saisiat remember the words of the Taai
The Saisiat haven't forgotten the arts taught by the Taai and the
Instructions from the Taai on how to farm and hunt
The Saisiat dare not forget the exhortations of the Taai
Recounting the past when we joyfully pursued one another
Through the fields, farming, hunting, offering sacrifices, and
Entertaining the spirits
How regretful the Saisiat lost grip, allowing the Taai to drown
The Saisiat shouted their remorse and suppressed sadness
The tragedy of the Broken Tree Bridge
Oh, Souls of the Taai, it was all the fault of the Saisiat
The Saisiat will not forget the lesson of the death of the Taai
The spirits of the Taai touch me, raise me, look at me, and advise me
But really, the Saisiat didn't do it on purpose
We deeply regret letting the Taai drown and become ghosts
With our own eyes we saw you disappearing along the Sekai River
And would always keep you in out hearts
The complaints and vengence of the Taai frightened the Saisiat
Always are the hearts of the Saisiat troubled and ill at ease
Oh, Souls of the Taai, the Saisiat were unable to see you
The Saisiat knotted the silvergrass inviting the Taai to accept
Their apologies
Don't forget our agreement, the Saisiat piously welcome your
Descent from Heaven
The Saisiat have prepared food and drink for you and your
Favorite Roro fish and shrimp
Please follow the Sekai River and allow the Saisiat to reverently
Welcome your arrival
The Saisiat have prepared song and dance to entertain you
To pass a beautiful evening in a scenic place
The Saisiat wait quietly to serve the spirit of the Taai when they
Descend from Heaven as appointed
Let us mend old wrongs at the Broken Tree Bridge and build
A new bridge of understanding in our hearts
Let the enmity between us be forgotten, so we plead with you,
