Self-satisfied

“H AST thou done well?” I answered freely, “Yes!
I have put forth my strength—and more than mine.
I struck a blow for Truth in her distress.
I fought for the divine.”

Thus all day long my Maker I defied.
At night the still small voice was heard within.
“Fool! the good deed on which thou think'st with pride
Is far from God as sin!”
