Of Slackness

He rarely Hits the Mark or Wins the Game,
Who says, “I Know I'll Miss!” while taking Aim.

T O have No Reason for a thing, is one
Good Reason why that thing should not be done.

“H AVE Not ” is poor indeed and meanly clad;
But poorer still is plaintive “If I Had!”

W HILE Young he says, “I don't know yet.”
When Old he'll answer, “I forget!”

I PLOWED “Perhaps,” I planted “If” therein.
And sadly harvested “It Might Have Been.”
