Today I Was Pleased

Today I was pleased
by the image
of the Japanese wrestler
legs apart,
hair tied in the back
looking like Turkey
astride the Anatolian fault

and a voice in me
cried, “Let us go
down to the river
and find Armenia

and listen again to that way
of speaking in Vasari:
‘It is related that
Giorgione
in conversation
with certain sculptors
at the time when
Andrea del Verrocchio
was engaged
with his bronze horse. . . .’”
