Upon a course in the padock between Swan Sir Hor[ace] Toun[send's] red pide dog and a Blew Academ[ic] or Camb[ridge] dog of Will[iam] Spen[cer]

As Pricket ore the Course did trip
Two Gray-hounds tride their footmanship
But neither could the pray ore-take
That bargain they forgot to make
Yet Swan not swam but seemd to fly
And allmost pincht he came soe nigh
The other seen in Morals more
Deemd fit the best should goe before
Soe read in Logick strait defind
In forrests Arts should come behind
This as a scholler dog he Knew
It was his place to come ofe blew
And Heraldry this truth begetts
Poets guive place to Barronets
Yet if their had not Ladies been
Spencer had raysd his Fayry Queen.
