Upon Fidelia only to be admired not drawn

Upon Fidelia only to be admired not drawn

Did I not deem't presumption in the haight
To seek to draw Apelles' line more strait
Or t'add a touch where Nature had Limmd one
And In't a singuler perfection
My Fethred Pencill should be wett and bring
The Choisest Coulers from the Thespian spring
To paint Thy Vertues Features; but soe far
Sithence they beyond all imitation are
I'le but admire them, silence shall express
How much all Art than Natures Lawes is less
A piece of Rubines may as soone be thine
In coppy who canst only paint a Signe
Whilst to th' originall thou comest as neer
As writing over head what 'tis can steer
Such gross abuses are: went I about
To draw th'at Life, many thear are might doubt
By my faint coulers that 'twas made for thee
When thou had'st payd thy last to desteny
And soe I should noe Picture but a grave
Make for those praises which noe limmets have.
