Upon the Lady Margaret Marchioness of Newcastle

Upon the Lady Margaret Marchioness of Newcastle her Rare Poems new come forth — 1652

Noe wonder 'twer though Schooles went doun
Now Learning shifts from Goune to Goune
Whilst Petticoat and Kertle may
The Banners of the Nine display
And Atomize what ere the Quill
Recorded from the Twin-like Hill
Make Wit and Fancy soe combine
In Numbers true and feet to joygne
As if all Dance and Musikes art
Were heer brought in to bear a part
(For the contrivement I'd averr
'Twould pussel a Philosopher)
The Stile, the Method and the Phrase
Doe haighten soe the Authress prayse
That I should too Injurious be
To cast into such Treasury
For all the Graces heer are mett
To make a Pearle of Margaret.
