Upon occation of a Sermon
Upon occation of a Sermon on the 2d of Peter — 1-10
He that would build, soe prove an Architect
Before He doth his wall and Pile erect
Digs for a Rock, and having found the ston
Grounds to Himself a suer foundation
And guathering all Confidence from thence
Materialls mustred are with dilligence
To Cut out windowes and to frame the Dores
Sutable to the stories and the flores
To guive each Room and stayre proportion due
For haight, bredth, length, and point each Timber true
Unto its mortice, lay the side-wall-Plate
Wheron the Cuppelings to Elevate
To joygn the rafters place the Tiles in riggs
For covering pind to the Laths with priggs
Then wind and weather proof he may conclude
He's safe because with providence endude
(This for a Temporall Structure):
Which agrees
Soe neer with that of Spiritual edefice
As that there must much paines be usd and care
Before one can such bewteous building rear
The Rock must by a lively fayth be found
Before we can have good foundation ground
And then the Ground-sel and the floores should lie
Squar'd right and Leveld by Humilety
That each ascent might answer to its story
Grace must begin the work that ends in Glory
And now to cover all that man had done
He that Elects, redeems us by his Sonn
And thus that Building to his heavnly call
Answers shall stand for ever, never fall.
