Upon the State of England at Present — July-12-1659

About a Government ther is much strife
Yet few ther are can Govern well a Wife
Wher Aristocrasy bears sway
The Nobler Rule the rest obey
Wher Oligarchy rules the Rost
Tribute is payd unto the Most
But wher Democracy Clayms power
Number select proves Governour
Now shuffle these and tel me then
If woemen Gain not all of men

First They're select Endowments rayse
All can be sayd of them in Prayse
Next what somere be't ne're soe Common
Man yeilds unto because a woeman
Then to conclude whilst She bears Rule
A man's the Ass and she the Mule.
