Upon the Times

An Ode — upon the times — February-20-1644

Awake Thou best of sence
Intelligence
And let noe fancy-vapour steer
Thy Contemplation t'think that peace is neer:
Whilst warr we doe bemone
Ther's nothing less left in intention

England that was, not is
Unless in Metamorphosis
Changd from the Bower of bliss and rest
To become now Bellonae's interest
In dainger of a funerall Pile
Unless some happy swift means reconcile

Which how to bring to pass
Beyond Mans hopes, alas
Therfore Be pleasd (Thou that didst make
Attonement for His sake)
To silence this un naturall spell
As Thou didst once the Delphian Oracle.
