That's what my life is like,
stone,
like you. Like you,
small stone;
like you,
light stone;
like you,
pebble rolling
down highways
and footpaths;
like you,
the humble cobblestone in the highroads;
like you,
who in stormy days
bury yourself
in the sky of the earth
and then
glint
under the horses' hoofs
and under the wheels;
like you, not good enough to be used
either as a stone
in a market place,
or a stone in a courthouse,
or a stone in a palace,
or a stone in a church;
like you,
wandering stone;
like you,
perhaps made only
to be a slingstone,
you, small
