Blues for a dog

I wish we were walking
the sun is down
a few miles in the moonlight
and you begin to glow
we went further every time
over the creek and under the bridge

past the water where the grass grows high
the coyotes stalked us from the safety of the tall grass
we always heard them but did not see them
they surely saw us

They could not help but see my white shadow
so very bright in the moon's glow
I could always find you in the dark
it was not as easy in the snow

One more time around the lake
over the creek and under the bridge
the coyotes whine from their position in the grass
afraid of the white form before them

The moon is full tonight
I wish we were walking
