Hands

Hands are interesting.

On each hand,
Four fingers, one thumb,
Bones wrapped in
Muscle, nestled with
forests of nerve endings
Coated in skin.

Appendages that take up
a small portion of the body
Holds so much power,
So much significance.

Hands can bring life into existence
And can take it on a whim.
Hands have connected others together
With language and song
And can sever ties the same way.
Hands speak
Truths and lies
Without words.
Love and hate,
Good and evil,
Life and death,
All reside
In the palms and digits
Of humankind.

It is interesting
That something so small,
So normal in human life
Defines who we are
And what it is to be “human,”
And in the end
The bearer of
Creation and destruction.

Interesting, isn’t it?
