Lovesick Blues

O Lord, why have you designed
for every malady a medicine,
For every wound, a balm
leaving only love incurable?

This melancholy dusk
this smothering loneliness
and my mournful heart
pining for my beloved
in this godforsaken milieu.

If not to appease my yearning heart
My love, can you but come
to soothe this moaning moon
and lo, to console these teary stars?
Oh, for heaven’s sake,
do come to enliven
this woebegone skyline.

When a gust of wind sweeps by
the rustling of the fallen leaves
startles me and I begin to wonder...

Did you just pass me by?

Seasons came, seasons went
and the path upon which
you were to tread begin to
disappear without a trace,
but I waited yet in a despondent state.
Ravaging my world
where have you been gone
leaving me here all torn asunder
forsaken, forlorn.

Heaven knows, death comes not cheaply,
for each breath I breathed I paid dearly.
Who knows why of late
my heart is besieged with
such a malaise that
nothing pleases me anymore…

Pray, let me but see you one last time
as my eyes have failed to behold pleasanter a sight.
