Millicent

by Laura

There’s a soft whisper in the wind today
Millicent would know what I mean
A wind that brought something swirling with it
Dancing in hazy white lines, blurred, in movement
Some present or message
In the wind’s rumbly waving ways
Millicent would know how it speaks

A whisper, like salt sea spray
A woosh, rocks on raging waves
A rush, comes in fast, never stays
A ripple, subtle soothing droplets play

Down, down. Fight gravity’s pull.
Be weightless, be breathing
Let the wind take you up
The saddest winds will cross your neck
The warmest, your face
And the chills on your spine
Bring you back down again

Feet to earth, you've returned
The wind dances away, you are breathless
This blurry haze embraced, you are changed
Sweetly swept up in whispers, in waves
Waves of feeling remembered, and remembered feeling
Message received, I gather
But what would Millicent say?

A whisper, like salt sea spray
A woosh, rocks on raging waves
A rush, comes in fast, never stays
A ripple, subtle soothing droplets play
