Plant It

by deismj

Plant it.

Crimson leaves float down.

From weathered branches.

They disintegrate rapidly

Near soiled ground.

We, as humans,

have trashed this planet.

Abusive.

We fail to leave it,

the way it was found.

Lush greenery.

Impressive foliage.

Exotic flora.

A landscape to swoon.

Failing to recognize

The surrounding beauty.

The seas, the mountains,

The sun and the moon.

Breathe in deep.

Lungs expanding with air.

But without any plants

What will this breath even be?

Nonexistent? Absent?

I’m gasping, I’m wheezing.

This earth we love

Is much more than beauty.

Oil in our oceans,

Deforestation.

Too far gone?

Quit thinking, we can.

Please, do not despair.

Hope and live for this earth.

For each tree we cut down,

We can also plant.
