A tribute to Giles Corey

By Cynthia Morrison

The Earth pushed back against Giles Corey,
Against he and pieces from a harvested quarry,
Salvation, Damnation or Puritan glory,
His fortitude grants an undying story.

Silent witnesses secretly disagreed,
Covert pleas for his soul to be swiftly freed,
Incoherent, breathless lung and heart there bleed,
All this for want and the Devil’s greed.
