A Second

by Xion

I’ve listened to the raindrops; tried to count them before
To the rhythm, when they hit the earth with all that they can
To the joy of the river as it gets more; wanting more
To the familiar song that slowly closes my eyes late in the night

Now
Let me fall
And I’ll fall… this raindrop from the heavens
So short a life; so great an impact

And in that second that I touch you with my soul
I’ll be your warmth, even if I’m freezing cold
Racing the streaks of heaven to reach to you in time
Oh love, even my brothers know, that you are mine
A love so short and I’ll die with it too
I’ll never see the after effect; what it did to you
Let the sky roar after I fall; let it flash my glory
A small little drop; let it remember this story
I can’t stay in your life for long; I may not influence your path
But to reach to you, even the winds I’ve fought
When it’s time again, alike and different I’ll rise
So… close your eyes and let me hold you; and maybe influence a choice

And I’ve seen the raindrops, on a cloudy day
How they’ve shown their presence all around
Changing the life of a young plant, on the verge of death
Standing in the rain, trying to feel the joy it felt

There's something very vivid and interesting here. I think it would be improved by abandoning end rhyme, since that can seem distracting when it's not consistent and combined with a consistent meter, and concentrating more on meter/rhythm/sound, with maybe some internal and slant rhymes. I really like the phrases "racing the streaks of heaven" and "let the sky roar after I fall."
