SNOWMAN PLUS ONE

SNOWMAN PLUS ONE

It was a winter’s evening, snowing and dark
An empty street with a fir tree, laden white
Made to endure when it was cold and stark

A street lamp shone with its soft yellow light
The snowman stood, twig arms opened wide
And both pebble eyes that offered him sight

He was warmly dressed up for being outside
Top hat and tartan scarf with dangling ends
A row of black buttons, and a smile so wide

Perhaps it was a stillness on which it depends
At the end of an arm, perched a robin so red
A symbol of trust and a message that it sends

Both sat alone, when the others are all in bed
And silence can mean so much, it is often said
