Summertime Sadness

I wish I could forget
the chestnut leaves,
the daffodils,
and the clear, sapphire skies.

When you cordially gave me your heart,
oblivious, I accepted.
Now I sit under the cool summer skies,
desperate to change reality.

Every time I see
the polychromatic butterflies
or hear
the mellow sound of trees in the breeze,
it brings me back to you when
you broke me down.

Once again,
I am back in the scorching heat of summer and
trapped in your aftermath.
