A Tiny Little Squirrel Dances Through The Sky

A tiny little squirrel
Carefully clambers up a limb
That stretches to the heavens
Like a warm and soaring hymn

His cautious little feet
Pitter patter up the face
Of this gnarled old behemoth
Who stands stoically in place

His busy little heart
Furiously pumps away
As he flits between the branches
Chirpings as he plays

His fluffy little tail
Blossoms as he weaves
Scaling branches high
As he darts between the leaves

His twitchy little nose
Squirms about his face
As he seeks the heady offerings
Of this warm and welcome place

His little button ears
Fluff about the breeze
As he soars through open spaces
Landing exactly where he needs

And this tiny little squirrel
Teaches the greatest lesson of my life
As I watch him dance above my head
Whilst I’m overcome by strife

Because this busy little creature
Lives only in the now
As he soars through open spaces
And glides from bough to bough

He is indifferent to the times
That swell around the earth
And the fragile human lives
That haunt us after birth

He is wholly unconcerned
With the state of the world
As he skips around the sky
Tail swishing as he’s unfurled

He is not worried in the slightest
About the woes of society
All that matters is the wind
And the movements of the trees

He lives only in the moments
That lie before his eyes
Like the careful little jumps
That propel him through the skies

And sometimes I wish
That for even just a day
I could be like this little squirrel
And not stress my life away

And I’m so happy that this squirrel
Went dancing through the sky
Because I have a feeling he’ll stay with me
Until the very day I die.
