The Way of All Men

For decades, I'd been afraid of growing cold
I'd watched them all from Jack to Jill all grow cold
Jill was ever brave
The day her heat turned low
She stared me in the eyes
As brave as an eagle
She told me not to hold a tight face
Cause my hot tears couldn't warm her skin anymore
For it's the way of all men
To grow cold
Watching her turn pale and burst blue
I didn't want to accept it
Surely, there was a way around it
Surely, I could be that special man to escape the fate of growing cold
I began to search for solutions
In the encyclopedia of books, the empty bottles and bitter sticks
They gave me hope
But decades later I found that
My hopes were delusions
Sitting still in the silence of my soul
Anubis said to me
Thou fool, does thou dread thy everlasting fate
Ever searching for the golden elixir
To class yourself as one of the gods?
Thou art a man
And it is written
It's the way of all men
To grow cold
And Alas! Staring my fate in the eyes
I repeated those stale words
It's the way of all men
To grow cold.
