Yuri and David in orbit
Yuri Gagarin
said he could have gone on
flying through space forever.
I know what he means.
In that situation
there’s only now, no never.
The sun does not rise
and the sun does not set –
one lives in perpetual
night. To theorize
here’s like placing a bet
on the chance of eternal
life. If David Hume
were alive at the time
to sit in that capsule’s seat,
I doubt he’d presume
that an astronaut try
to demonstrate his fiat –
held up by the fact
there is no tomorrow,
for that depends on the sun,
he’d have to rewrite
something more apropos –
a clearer Proposition.
