307th Weekly Poetry Contest winner: Peace

by beezley115

Bound to happen:
the corpse of a raccoon,
its skull picked clean
and the bag of its abdomen
teeming with flies,
overlooked by upward of thirty
roosting black vultures,
has now been removed from the trail
so that families can walk easily past
a smooth patch in the gravel.
She will not be missed except,
perhaps, by the most perverse twelve-year-olds.
