The Bird on Nellie's Hat

1. Ev'ry Saturday, Willie got his pay, Then he'd call for
Nell, Trousers neatly pressed and nice white vest,
Buttenhole bouquet as well; On Nellie's little hat There
was a little bird, That little bird knew lots of things, It did, upon my word; And
in it's quiet way, It had a lot to say, As the lovers strolled along:
2. In a shady nook, By, the quiet brook, Nell and Willie
fish, Lips together meet in kisses sweet,
Love is such a dainty dish; Then Nellie said to Will Such

Everybody's Welcome

Everybody's welcome
Yes, yes, welcome!
Everybody's welcome,
To the dying Lamb!
Oh Glory!
Free Salvation!
Oh Glory!
To the dying Lamb.

Father you are welcome
Yes, yes, welcome!
Everybody's welcome,
To the dying Lamb!
Oh Glory!
Free Salvation!
Oh Glory!
To the dying Lamb.

Mother you are welcome
Yes, yes, welcome!
Everybody's welcome,
To the dying Lamb!
Oh Glory!
Free Salvation!
Oh Glory!
To the dying Lamb.

Sister you are welcome

All of Them

Everybody said it was useless
Everybody said, “you're trying to lean on sun dust”
that the beloved before whose tree I stand
can't be reached
Everybody said, “you're crazy to throw yourself
headlong into a volcano and sing”
Everybody said that salty mountain
won't yield even one glass of wine
Everybody said, “You can't dance on one foot”
Everybody said there won't be any lights at the party
That's what they all said
but everybody came to the party anyway

Pay Your Debts

Everybody knows her, for they see her every day
As she swings around the corner with that blue dress on parade;
Though it is not all in looking, stylish clothes don't win today,
There's nothing counts like dollars when you have your debts to pay.

This we should teach our children, not extravagant to be,
As our race in this country has not so long been free;
They must take care of their money and buy homes in various ways,
To be creditable and honest when they have their debts to pay.

Earthy Anecdote

Every time the bucks went clattering
Over Oklahoma
A firecat bristled in the way.

Wherever they went,
They went clattering,
Until they swerved
In a swift, circular line
To the right,
Because of the firecat.

Or until they swerved
In a swift, circular line
To the left,
Because of the firecat.

The bucks clattered.
The firecat went leaping,
To the right, to the left,
And
Bristled in the way.

Later, the firecat closed his bright eyes

The Dustman

Every Thursday morning
Before we're quite awake,
Without the slightest warning
The house begins to shake
With a Biff! Bang!
Biff! Bang! Biff!
It's the Dustman, who begins
(B ANG ! Crash !)
To empty all the bins
Of their rubbish and their ash
With a Biff! Bang!
Biff! Bang! Bash!

The Little Rose Tree

Every rose on the little tree
Is making a different face at me!
Some look surprised when I pass by,
And others droop—but they are shy.
These two whose heads together press
Tell secrets I could never guess.
Some have their heads thrown back to sing,
And all the buds are listening.
I wonder if the gardener knows,
Or if he calls each just a rose?
