In July

A summer night, a summer sea—
The stars all twinkling joyously;
A cooling breeze that wanders by
As soft as some poor lover's sigh;
A flash of moth athwart the light;
The moon a marvel to the sight;
A touch of music on the air,
And balmy odors everywhere
To tell the story of the rose
That sleeps in yonder garden-close;
And at my side the Only One
Since life began, till life is done—
Were all the world at hand to take
I would not from this dream awake!
