To a Swallow

Malicious bird! what punishment,
Due to thy crimes, can love invent?
Or clip thy wings, or cut thy tongue,
And spoil thy flight, and future song:
That thus, unseasonable guest,
Thou dar'st disturb a lover's rest,
And tear the maid, profuse of charms,
My fair Maria, from my arms.
