Shellbrook
Then out at Shellbrook, roun' by stile an' tree,
Wi' longer days an' zunny hours a-come,
Wi' spring an' all the zunny show'rs a-come,
Wi' Maÿè an' all its sheenen flow'rs a-come,
How sweet vor young wi' young to meet in glee.
An' there how we in merry talk did goo
By foam below the river baÿè, all white,
By blossom on the green-leaved Maÿè, all white,
By chalk bezide the dousty waÿè, all white,
Where glitt'ren waters match'd the sky wi' blue.
Or else in winden paths by vield or drong,
We over knaps a-slopen steep did wind,
Or down the dells a-zinken deep did wind,
Or where the benden brook did zweep did wind,
All young wi' young in merry laugh or zong.
But now the winter-vrozen churchyard wall do keep
The plot o' tower-sheäded ground all white,
Where friends can vind the vrosted mound, all white,
Wi' turf a-zwellen up so round, all white,
Wi' young a-sunder'd vrom the young in sleep.
Wi' longer days an' zunny hours a-come,
Wi' spring an' all the zunny show'rs a-come,
Wi' Maÿè an' all its sheenen flow'rs a-come,
How sweet vor young wi' young to meet in glee.
