Consolation

Weep not for her, who, like the day,
When sunset gilds the tranquil scene,
With lingering radiance pass'd away —
In cheerful hope and joy serene:
Another day the sun will greet,
And friends so dear again shall meet.

Weep not for her, who meekly led
A life of piety and love,
Whose unassuming virtue shed
A hallow'd influence from above.
The fallen dew-drop needs must dry,
Exhaled into its native sky.

Weep not for her, who now at rest
Where care and pain no more annoy,
Has reach'd the haven of the blest,
And realized immortal joy.
Her spirit smiles from that bright shore,
And softly whispers " Weep no more! "
