My parents to the distant town this morning early went

My parents to the distant town this morning early went
To meet them on the mountain road the servant I have sent
The autum day its course has run—the autumn evening falls
Already ris'n the autum moon gleams quiet on these walls
And Twilight to our lonely house a silent guest is come
In mask of gloom through every room she passes dusk and dumb
I've followed her—through every door—I've cautious glanced to see
That only shade and moonbeams filled each chamber's vacancy
