Rapture
Your arms enfolding me—Your face so near to mine—
When your least smile had made
My life divine.
Now is the world our own,
All lovely things are ours:
The moon, the stars, the trees,
And all the flowers.
I did not think that life
Could hold so deep a bliss
As, flowing like the tide,
Came with your kiss.
'Twas but a moment since:
How long ago it seems!
I am as one who wakes
From idle dreams:
Awakes new-born in you
Beloved from this hour.
I seemed weak as a child,
Now I have power.
The power to be and do:
The strength to smile at Fate;
If Death should seek his prize,
He comes too late;
For I am one with Life.
Yes, God has power in me.
There is no struggling now,
For I am free.
And O my heart is full!
Where shall I spend my love?
Earth is not wide enough,
Nor heaven above.
Bend down your head again
And kiss my lips and eyes,
Then shine through all the darkened world,
O my Sunrise!English
