Classic Poem

Biton, the old Arkadian, offers these gifts to rural Pan, to Bakkhos, and to the Nymphs: to Pan, a newborn he-goat playing beside its mother; to Bakkhos, a spray of climbing ivy; to the Nymphs, a woven basket of summer fruit, and a garland of wide-open red roses. In return for these, O Nymphs, send many streams of clear water through the old man's domain; grant him an abundance of milk, O Pan; and you, Bakkhos, a luxuriance of grapes.
