Cupid Caught

As I once in wanton play,
Binding up a chaplet lay,
Mid the roses on the ground,
Cupid fast asleep, I found.
Straightway, by his wings, well-pleased,
I the little archer seized,
Who so oft had vext my soul,
And within my flowing bowl
Plunged him deep, then swallowed up,
Him, and all that filled the cup.
