178th Weekly Poetry Contest honorable mention: Lucifer / Light Bearer (Latin)

by Johann F. Potgieter

vexi luciferum in viam fumi
ac mea propriae habit facem
coruscari.

et tu, lucifer, quid oculis
quid verbis, quid corde
consiliis.

heu, heu, paene amici
scio nihil dum visissem
et conspexi.

Translation:

I rode the smoke to Lucifer
Carrying a beacon of my own
I flickered.

And you, Lucifer, what in your eyes
Your words, your heart
Your counsel.

Damn all! Almost my friend
I knew naught while watching
And I saw.
