Annals of Our History

Sound of Freedom

We said we have come of age,
We said we were no more infants,
Crawling and asking to be carried,
We said our faculties are mature,
We can find our way through the woods,
We fought for freedom,
Our leaders pressed for it,
They were unrelenting and
unwavering in their fight,
Armed with their voices, pens and papers,
They strove until they lay hold on freedom,
Joy and celebration rent the air,
Our taskmasters were no
longer at the helm of affairs,
Some went back home,
Some stood and watched from afar,
We have messed up the system,
We have ruined the structures they built,
We have beaten ourselves with many stripes,
Our leaders have looted the nation's treasury,
Inconsiderate of the populace,
They have amassed substance,
They have taken the bread out of the mouth of the followers,
Unrest has seized the day,
Kidnappings and killings lurk around,
Nightfall brings fear into the hearts of the people,
They sleep with half-closed eyes,
They have protested and cried,
Nothing worthwhile seems to have been done,
The armed bandits are
overpowering the armed men,
The nation is in a state of
dilemma, chaos and pandemonium,
She has been pushed to the edge of the cliff,
Mishandled freedom has brought so many ills,
Unripe freedom has brought untold troubles.
