15. Domitian's Triumph

P ANNONIAN victories thy glory prove
And every altar greets returning Jove.
The Latin tribes their triple largess earn,
And people, knights, and senate incense burn.
Our loyal love thou takest, Sire, on trust,
And Rome conceals her triumphs; for she must.
But thy peace-laurels all the brighter show;
A prince's virtue is his folk to know.
