Ah me, sigh'd I, and is Palæmon dead,
Who then must Wrongs redress;
Or who assist the Fatherless?
For Palæmon was truly good,
And practis'd more than Others understood:
How zealously he'd plead the Pauper's Cause,
And for their Sake expound the Nation's Laws?
Too partial Fates! is this your Method still,
To spare the Wicked, and the Righteous kill?
Alas! we have but few Exemplars here,
And soon as known, so soon they disappear:
The wise! the just! the good Palæmon's dead!
And with him all our Joys, our Hopes, and Comforts fled.
