While my breast feels a pleasure or a pain,
So long thy poem will fresh joys impart,
Amuse my fancy and delight my heart;
Touch the fine nerves that all the passions move,
Re-kindle friendship, and enrapture love!
The mind, that glows with true poetic fire,
Feels no mean envy at a brother's lyre,
But freely pays the tribute which is due
To genius, pathos, poetry, and you.
