Advice to a Painter

Advice to a Painter.

Come Painter, once again assume thy skill,
Pencill and Colours, which have long layn still.

Dash with bold strokes, bold [as] our fears are now,
Bold as their Crimes, that help'd to make 'em so:
Next our State-Messalina represent,
Whose taile's the Rudder of our Government
In which a drained King and Kingdom's spent.
Damn'd Gulph of Lust!
