Against Fortune-Tellers, Commonly Called, Wise-Men
Sith all our Knowledge from our Senses comes,
which oft mistake, then must our Wisedome needs
Mistake, as oft as Error ouer-comes
our Knowledge , that from erring Sense proceedes.
Then all our Wisedome must be most vnsure,
as are the grounds from whence the same doth grow:
Yet some great Wise men hardly can endure
that God should know that which they do not know.
And, sith they know, they know not as they ought;
more then they ought, they seeme to know, at least;
These are the Wise men that by Fooles are sought
to shew euents to come, to giue them rest:
On whom they doe bestow a Wise mans fee ,
Which these wise Seers onely, doe fore-see.
