August Day in Gardena, An

A BLOOM o'ertides the forest sides
Like Autumn on the grape;
Much light upon the mountain hides
The starkly hammered shape.

High flies the wind and straight, he crisps
Clear skies above the South,
Moon-coloured cloud in shuffled wisps
Unrolls before his mouth.

O'er Northwind loud and lucent cloud
The master sun supreme,
Holds all a happy valley bowed
Enchanted in a dream:

Dream such as human hearts indulge
When, with a sudden birth,
Silence and solitude divulge
The secret of the earth.
