Blown Leaves
The Autumn came to-day at dawn
With wind and flying cloud,
And that dear need of you I hide,
Waked to the yearning wind outside,
Held me half-dreaming, till I cried
Your name — your name aloud!
But later, when the sun was up,
And Indian Summer's flame
Spun earth to gold — oh, still I knew
The seeking, lonely wind that blew
At dawn — and whirled my heart to you,
A leaf, that cried a name!
With wind and flying cloud,
And that dear need of you I hide,
Waked to the yearning wind outside,
Held me half-dreaming, till I cried
Your name — your name aloud!
But later, when the sun was up,
And Indian Summer's flame
Spun earth to gold — oh, still I knew
The seeking, lonely wind that blew
At dawn — and whirled my heart to you,
A leaf, that cried a name!
