Cave Canem

Taking my evening stroll
I cautiously keep to the woodland alley
Turning back before reaching the neighbours' houses
To avoid startling any of the dogs.
It might be well, I ponder,
If one could do thus in the mind also,
Warily retracing one's thoughts
Before arousing the outcry
Of some indignant hound.
