To-day

As once by Hybna's emerald flow
The goatboy saw in dream
The old gods to their hunting go,
And heard their eagles scream,
So I, by Nashwaak's amber stream,
See gods and heroes pass,
While these drab days and deeds but seem
Like shadows in a glass.

But when a thousand years are done
My eyes, unsealed, will know
Beauty and glory new begun
As in the long ago;
And then, astonished, I shall know
The splendour of To-Day,
When men outdare the old gods, and grow
In reach more vast than they.
