On the Death of the Princess Alice

Tender and true! whose virtue was thy crown!
Whose royalty was royally to live!
Death, sent to fetch thee, laid his arrow down,
And prayed that Love the bitter call would give;
But Love, who could not stop such gentle breath,
Whispered thy child to give the Kiss of Death!
