Easter Dayes Resurrexit

Easter Dayes Resurrexit composd 1640

Set the Cliff higher
Now
   And raise
  Each harts key
 To present a Vowe
   In praise
Of Him who lately was our buier
  And of this Day
Which He makes cleerer far than other dayes

For look we back and ther
   We may with ease
   See what we were
   Transfomd beyond
  All workes did pleas
The maker
Soe
 That whilst He did commend
What He had done Man wrought his endles woe
Nor of those praises longer was partaker.

 Before when known
To be
  By innocencies Livery
 The fairest likenes of creation
   All other thinges
Were but to him as offerings
Wherby.
  He might maintain
The title of the Worlds true soveraign

 Justice and mercy both
  The King of Heaven
   Delights to show
And in his hands the Scoales doth hould soe even
That whilst enforc't to punnish, yet He's loth
   To over throw
And soe a way prescribes wherin
Man may revenged be of sinn

 To this effect
  When He saw time
   His Sonn was sent
That all disgraces of the crime
    On him being spent
 Noe contumely nor neglect
   Might lie behind
To sink into despair a troubled mind

 Soe sufferd He
   To sett
Man
   Free again
    Whose debt
   Requird noe less
    To recompence
    The guiltines
Of soe great disobedience
 Which bond dischargd
  All are enlargd
 Who can through Faith arise
  With Him who Clarefies
  Beyond our apprehention
 The splendor this dayes skies
     Put on
To Emblem His bright Resurrection.
