Epitaph on George Humphrey, a Very Accomplished and Promising Youth, Who Died at the Age of Eighteen

A VERY ACCOMPLISHED AND PROMISING YOUTH, WHO DIED AT THE
AGE OF EIGHTEEN .

A Parent speaks: — " My Sons, this marble view!
And with your own your Brother's life renew.
With talents gifted, and with arts improv'd,
His blushes grac'd the Science that he lov'd:
From duty's path his genius never stray'd;
His temper bless'd the guides that he obey'd:
No turbulence of passions , foe to rest,
Could stir the calm of his unsully'd breast;
Though on the verge of man his parting breath,
He died — in purity — an infant's death.
